E s gave some friendly hints in the last few months to the editors - from readers, but also from industry. Tenor: Great, the way you test, but unfortunately the points scheme does not reflect reality very consistently.

New points system at sport auto

To be honest, We knew this for a while, but a new point system is always a tough job. Especially when you not only do the obvious, i.e. adjust the upper and lower limits for the allocation of points, but also modernize the weighting and on top of that, convert everything to a new maximum point - and please do so without errors!

Ours A man in the tangle of Excel files is Uwe Sener, who calculated like the devil: What has now changed? First, we have redesigned the scoring for the individual and comparison tests. Instead of 60 there are now 100 points. The wider spread gave us leeway to adjust the upper and lower limits and thus take into account the performance development of sports cars and sporty vehicles. Example: a BMW M3 used to drive 1.18 minutes at Hockenheim, a Porsche 911 Turbo 1.12 minutes. Today a bmw M4 drives 1.12 min, a Porsche 911 Turbo 1.08 min.

Performance differences in the super test are more visible

So far, all lap times below 1.12 minutes were rated with 10 points, now the new maximum number of points of 25 points is only available for lap times below 1.08 minutes. By increasing the number of points, we achieve better separation accuracy and depth of field. In terms of weighting, we will reward lateral dynamics more than longitudinal dynamics in the future; we have also replaced the old euro /hp category with the performance-related euro /point rating. The price continues to flow in, but now the basic price including all extras relevant to driving dynamics. This means that in future you will know exactly what performance you will get for your money.

We have also modernized the Supertest points scheme. It remains at a maximum of 100 points, but we are now better reflecting reality by tightening the criteria: Up until now there was a jam for the super athletes under the 100-point cap because too many vehicles were able to score maximum points in the lap times . However, nothing has changed in the order of the vehicles, the scoring system forms thePerformance differences are only better now.

In the new sport auto 06/2015 we immediately chased the new Audi TTS Coupé through the new points scheme. And have the sportiest 911 in the exclusive track test: the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
