Also in July VW shows its market power. Seven out of ten models from the top 10 come from the VW brand. Only BMW and Opel are still a little involved at the top.
A total of 236,393 new cars rolled onto our roads in the reporting month 2021, almost a quarter fewer than a year ago. But even with reduced demand, customer interest is largely focused on the same models as always. Many of the bestsellers come from VW. The interest in many VW models makes the Wolfsburg market leader.
Mini, 3 Series and Corsa disrupt the VW dominance
As always, the Golf is at the top. The all-time front runner will be followed in July by the VW T-Roc, the VW Polo and the VW Tiguan. The BMW 3 Series, the first disruptor, only came in fifth. Another model from the BMW Group, the Mini, sails in its fairway in sixth place. With the VW Up, place seven sees a VW model again. With a brief interruption due to the Opel Corsa in eighth place, the VW games continue with the VW T-Cross and VW Passat models in ninth and tenth place. The first model from a non-German manufacturer is the Fiat 500 in eleventh place.
As the only purely electric model, the VW ID.3 was able to stay in the top 50 at number 31 in July. Renault Zoe and Tesla Model 3 dropped out. Skoda plays its first trump card in 13th place with the Octavia. Audi places the A6 directly behind as the best-selling model. The July bestseller from Mercedes took 15th place with the GLC – the C-Class followed in 17th place. Korea entered the action for the first time in 18th place with the Ceed. The best-placed Ford can be found in the form of the Kuga at number 20 on the list.
22 out of 50 from the VW Group
Hyundai can place the Kona in 22nd place, Seat only enters the top 50 in 26th place with the Leon. The only Dacia is the Sandero in 30th place. The Mitsubishi Spacestar in 34th place shows that cheap small cars are still in demand.
