D he Italian new car market increased in 2014 by 4.21 % and reached 1,359,616 new registrations. Fiat remains the market leader with 281,582 new registrations and a market share of 20.71%. VW follows in second place with 110,227 new registrations and a market share of 8.11%. The podium is completed by Ford with 91,541 new registrations and a 6.73% market share.

Fiat is at the fore in Italy

The other Italian brands delivered different results on their home market. Lancia lost 2.74% compared to the previous year, Alfa Romeo even 10.53% and Lamborghini 9.62%. Maserati, on the other hand, was able to grow by 378.68%, Ferrari came up to + 20.11%

The Italian market is still dominated by small cars. Right at the front is the Panda in front of the Punto and the Fiat 500L. Fourth place went to the Lancia Ypsilon, fifth was the Fiat 500. Only in sixth place followed the first import model with the Renault Clio. The VW Golf, which is used to success in Germany, remains in 7th place, making it the best-selling compact model.

The best-placed mid-range model is the 3-series from BMW in 31st place. Otherwise, the top 50 from Italy include small cars alongside small cars many SUV and crossover models.
