D he Brazilian market is looking at 1,127 in the first half of 2018 .195 new registrations (cars and light commercial vehicles) fell, which corresponds to an increase of 13.71 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. 958,405 new registrations were for passenger cars and 168,812 new registrations for light commercial vehicles, most of them the pickups popular in Brazil. GM is the market leader in Brazil with a market share of 16.9 percent. This is followed by VW (14.8%), Fiat (13.0%), Ford (9.5%), Hyundai (8.6%), Renault (8.3%), Toyota (8.0%), Honda (5.7%), Jeep (4.4%) and Nissan (4.1%).

Brazil is small car market

Is the absolute bestseller in Brazil in the first half of 2018 the Chevrolet Onix from GM's stable. Already with a respectable gap of 40,000 new registrations follows in second place with the Hyundai HB20 another small hatchback. The other placements also show how popular this segment is in Brazil. Here are the Ford Ka, the VW Polo and the VW Gol. Tied with the latter is the first pickup - the Strada from Fiat - also in fifth place. The top 10 of the first half of the year are completed by the small notchback sedan Chevrolet Prisma, the mini-SUV Renault Kwid as well as the Toyota Corolla with notchback and the Jeep Compass.

The first really larger model is in 22nd place, the Toyota Hilux, followed by the Chevrolet S10 Pickup on 26th, the Ford Ranger Pickup in 42nd, the VW Amarok Pickup in 46th and the Toyota SW4 SUV in 50th. Otherwise, the top 50 are limited to small cars and small sedans up to the compact class ..

Big cars hardly in demand

Station wagons are hardly in demand. A Golf Variant, as a bestseller in this category, has just 324 new registrations. Sports cars are also exclusive, although the Ford Mustang with 627 new registrations can clearly be considered an outlier, because a Porsche 911 in second place only has 86 new registrations. Mid-size sedans are also having a hard time in Brazil. In six months, for example, only 1,507 BMW 3 Series and 716 VW Passat and 701 Mercedes CLA were sold - with which we have already shown the top 3.
