Z at the end of the year, the statistics in December 2017 were again mixed up . The KBA statisticians recorded a total of seven changes in leadership: In the mini segment, the Smart Fortwo came first, in the small car segment the Mini and in the upper middle class the BMW 5 Series. The upper class is led by the Mercedes S-Class and the SUV of the Ford Kuga. In the sports car segment, the Mercedes E-Class Coupé has the highest new registration rate and in the case of mini-vans, the Renault Scénic. In all other segments, the models with the highest registrations of the previous month are shown.

In terms of volume, the compact class also leads the segments in December. The market share is 23.0 percent. It is followed by SUVs with 16.3 percent and small cars with 15.8 percent. You can see the top 3 new registrations by segment for December in our >>> table .

But also in the The compact class is at the top with a market share of 23.3 percent. A total of 802,999 models were registered here for the first time in 2017, despite a decrease of 5.1 percent. In second place are SUVs with 15.2 percent, where 521,660 vehicles were registered for the first time last year, an increase of 22.5 percent compared to 2016. As in the reporting month of December, the bronze rank goes to the small cars in the annual balance sheet. 499,300 vehicles mean a market share of 14.5 percent in this segment and a small increase in registrations of 2.7 percent.

Top 3 new registrations by segment

The King of the Minis in 2017 was the VW Up, ahead of the Fiat 500 and the Smart Fortwo. Not surprisingly, the order of the small cars. Here the VW Polo dominates the annual balance sheet ahead of the Opel Corsa and the Skoda Fabia. It is not for nothing that the compact class is also popularly known as the “golf” class. At the top of the list is of course the VW Golf at the end of 2017. The Skoda Octavia moved up to second place overall. The Opel Astra only remains in third place in this class.

In the middle class, the series winner VW Passat is meanwhile being pushed hard by the Mercedes C-class. In the 2017 annual balance sheet, the VW is just ahead of the Mercedes and the Audi A4. The Mercedes E-Class was able to assert itself in the upper middle class. You are followed by the BMW5 Series and the Audi A6. The usual protagonists are also on the podium in the upper class. Right at the top the Mercedes S-Class, behind it the BMW 7 Series and third place goes to the Porsche Panamera. the Audi A8 has to do without a podium.

Porsche 911 dominates sports cars

Mercedes GLC ahead of Ford Kuga and Opel Mokka is the ranking in the SUV segment. When it comes to off-road vehicles, the VW Tiguan hovers well above its rivals Audi Q5 and Audi Q3. The 2017 sports car king is the Porsche 911, which was able to position itself well ahead of the Ford Mustang in second place and the Audi TT in third place.

The mini vans see the Mercedes B-Class ahead, the large vans the VW Touran and the Utilities the VW T6. The Fiat Ducato also remains a force in motorhomes.
