New Peugeot 5008 (2016)
Subscriptions & booklets

M it the new Peugeot 5008, which is based on the Paris Autosalon will celebrate its world premiere, the French are clearly committed to the SUV trend and are putting the new edition directly against the likewise new Skoda Kodiaq. The EMP2 PSA all-purpose weapon serves as a platform for the 5008. For the 5008 it was stretched to a length of 4.64 meters and a wheelbase of 2.84 meters. The 11 cm increase in length compared to the predecessor should be clearly noticeable in the interior.

Lots of seats or lots of space

The Peugeot 5008 takes its rear passengers on three equally wide, longitudinally adjustable individual seats that can also be unlocked and folded from the luggage compartment. However, this does not result in a flat loading area. On request, you can also order two additional seats that can be fully retracted into the floor, making the 5008 a seven-seater. The additional seats, each weighing 11 kg, should also be easy to remove completely, thus freeing up 39 liters of additional storage space each. As a five-seater, the 5008 holds between 780 and 1,940 liters of luggage. Additional storage compartments hold 38 liters of utensils. With the foldable passenger seat back, the maximum loading length is 3.20 meters. An optional gesture-controlled tailgate provides access to the cargo area.

Robust optics for the 5008

The turn to the SUV Segment, the French have also made it visually clearly recognizable. The new 5008 looks more angular, the nose is more upright in the wind. Underride protection elements on the aprons, together with the plastic planking, should ensure a robust appearance all around. Roof arches, flanks and the bumpers have applications in an aluminum look. The format of the alloy wheels ranges from 17 to 19 inches in diameter. The face is optionally shaped by full LED headlights. In the higher equipment variants, the filigree roof - optionally with a panoramic glass roof - is set off in black from the bulky base body.

6 engines on offer, but no all-wheel drive

For the market launch in spring 2017 For the Peugeot 5008, there are two petrol engines with a displacement of 1.2 liters and 130 and 1.6 liters and 165 hp as well as four diesel engines with 100, 120 (both 1.6 liters) and 150 and 180 hp (two-liter). As with the 3008, Peugeot does without all-wheel drive in the 5008. Only the well-known extended slip regulation Grip Control and a hill descent aid are offered. Peugeot is still working on a new (plug-in) hybrid version with electric all-wheel drive. This time, however, a gasoline engine and an electric motor are combined. However, this drive is still a long way off and won't be ready until 2018.

The extensive range of assistance systems (including adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, blind spot assistant, parking assistant, lane departure warning, 360-degree monitoring) is shared by the new Peugeot 5008 with its shorter brother 3008 as well as the i-Cockpit with a large digital display for the instruments above the small steering wheel.

So far, the prices of the 5008, which is available in the versions Access, Active, and Allure as well as GT Line and GT is offered. As a van, the 5008 was hardly more expensive than the 3008, which starts at 22,900 euros in a new form. Will it stay that way? You will have to reckon with around 24,000 euros for the new 5008.
