B The dimensions of the new BMW X5 are almost unchanged the old. The wheelbase was taken over unchanged, the other dimensions were changed only marginally, whereby the vehicle weight should be reduced by up to 90 kilograms through lightweight construction measures. In contrast, the front design has been significantly modified. As with the 3 Series and the freshly overhauled 5 Series, the new headlights move right up to the radiator grille. The kidney itself is steeper and rises up further. The bonnet is more strongly contoured and the front apron has also become much more three-dimensional. Behind the front wheel arches, the engine heat is now allowed to escape through gill elements, the flanks themselves have two horizontal beads carved into the sheet metal.
New BMW X5 receives new rear lights
The new BMW follows the rear view X5 the X3. The two-part rear lights have been made wider, and numerous horizontal lines create a broad effect. On the flanks of the rear window, wind deflectors, together with the roof spoiler, are intended to ensure optimized aerodynamics. The apron now has a suggested underride protection element, which is also reflected in the side sills and the front apron.
In the interior, the seating position has been increased, but the dashboard has been lowered and now optically continued in the doors. The rear seat backrest should offer more variability thanks to the new three-part division, the load volume increased to 650 to 1,870 liters. In future, the tailgate can be opened and closed automatically, also by remote control and from the driver's seat. The rear can optionally be equipped with comfort seats and a third row of seats.
Three engines for market launch
For the There will initially be space under the bonnet for three engines - one gasoline and two diesel. The top engine is the new, 450 hp and 650 Nm 4.4-liter V8 biturbo. Diesel customers can choose the three-liter six-cylinder with 258 hp and 560 Nm or the three-liter triturbo with 381 hp and 740 Nm. From December 2013, three more engines will be added. In terms of driving dynamics, the new BMW X5 is expected to improve through various suspension packages. The driving experience control is on board as standard, the adaptive chassis and active steering are only available for an extra charge.
Assistance systems in the X5 are being modernized
Some assistance systems are also new or modernized. Among other things, the scope of the head-up display has been expanded, a high-beam assistant has been introduced for the optional LED light, the night vision system now also recognizes animals, and the parking assistant parks the new BMW X5 fully automatically lengthways and crossways. The adaptive cruise control has a stop & go and a traffic jam function.
On the equipment side, the sporty design package Pure Experience and the luxurious package Pure Excellence have been created in addition to the M sport package.
BMW X5 costs from 52,100 euros
The new BMW X5 will be launched in Germany in November 2013. The SUV can be ordered from August. Prices start at 52,100 euros for the BMW X5 sDrive25d with rear-wheel drive, the all-wheel drive costs from 54,700 euros. The 30d is in the price list for at least 59,400 euros, the 40d is available from 65,800 euros. For the M50d at least 84,800 euros are required.
