I n 15 seconds to happiness. That is how long it takes for the new Audi A5 Cabriolet to stow its electric soft top behind the two rows of seats. The driver needs 18 seconds to close it again. The roof can be opened and closed while driving at a maximum of 50 km /h.
Audi A5 Cabriolet relies on classic open-top virtues
When it comes to design, Audi is based on the A5 Coupé. The large, angular single-frame grille dominates the face, framed by the - compared to its predecessor - slimmer headlights. Instead of a retractable roof made of sheet metal like the BMW 4 Series Convertible, Audi is again relying on a classic fabric top.
Despite the light weight Dachs is also the new Audi A5 Cabriolet a little heavier than the coupé versions, additional stiffeners are to blame. Audi claims that the rigidity has increased by 40 percent - with a moderate increase in weight. Compared to its predecessor, the new convertible loses up to 40 kilograms, depending on the engine and equipment. The Audi A5 Cabriolet with front-wheel drive, two-liter diesel engine and 190 hp weighs 1,690 kilos (Coupé: 1,535 kilos).
More comfort and high-tech features
According to information from Audi is better insulated than its predecessor - wind noise should be largely a thing of the past. In other respects, too, comfort is paramount in the convertible. Thanks to the 14 millimeters longer wheelbase, the new Audi A5 Cabriolet offers more space inside. The shoulder room for the driver and front passenger has increased by 26 millimeters, while rear passengers have 18 millimeters more legroom. The trunk has a capacity of 380 liters and can be opened with full hands by means of a kick under the rear apron.
For a surcharge, Audi can install a large infotainment system for the A5 Cabriolet: The 8.3-inch 'MMI Navigation Plus' has a resolution of 1,024 by 480 pixels, saves 10 gigabytes on a flash memory and makes your favorite music audible both via the AUX-in connection and via a USB plug in the interior. The Virtual Cockpit is also available for the Audi A5 Cabriolet.
Especially for smartphones: the Audi 'Phone Box' integrates the smartphone into the vehicle peripherals and amplifies the received signal with the on-board antenna. Inductive charging is possible with cell phones that support the QI standard.
