D he 2.1-liter four-cylinder of the type OM651 is the universal weapon in the Daimler group. It comes in different power levels as 200 CDI, 220 CDI and 250 CDI with up to 204 hp in the A-, B-, C-, E-, S-, GL-, ML-, CLA-, GLA-, and series CLS-Class as well as the V-Class, Viano, Vito and Sprinter.
A total of around 114,000 vehicles from the construction period February to November 2014 are affected in Germany. In addition, 'a low three-digit number' on older vehicles (up to 2008) in which the engine was used as a replacement unit is said to be affected.
Mercedes blames manufacturing tolerances for the sealing rings for the problem. The owners of affected vehicles have already been contacted by Daimler via the KBA and asked to go to the workshops for repairs. Mercedes estimates about 1.5 to 2.5 hours to replace the seal on the chain tensioner.
