G in your tradition luxury models like the Maybach or Transforming the Mercedes 230 into partial Landaulet convertibles is a must nowadays for an extreme off-roader. And what could be more natural for Mercedes than to couple the extreme off-roader with the luxury brand Maybach. The result is a 6.0-liter V12 biturbo model that generates 630 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque and is based on the G500 4x4².

Especially for well-heeled customers in the American, Russian or Arab countries Markets should be interested in the Landaulet-Maybach-G - especially since the model will be limited to 99 copies. Market launch is in autumn, potentates and sheikhs can order from March 2017 - prices have not yet been announced.

Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet with more comfort

5,345 millimeters in length, 3,428 millimeters in wheelbase and a height of 2,235 millimeters, with a ground clearance of half a meter, should offer the four passengers enough space for comfortable travel. The driver and front passenger sit under the closed, fixed roof; the two rear passengers can open the convertible top at the push of a button. In addition, a partition allows the chauffeur to be locked out at the front. The window is also transparent at the push of a button.

If you sit in the back of the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, you can't just let yourself be driven open. Both rear passengers sit enthroned on S-Class massage couch leather individual seats with calf rest and enjoy a lot of legroom thanks to the 578 millimeter longer wheelbase. In the wide center console, cup holders allow drinks to be cooled and kept warm. The controls for opening or closing the partition are integrated behind the cup holders. Two folding tables with leather inlays serve as writing pads or shelves for tablets. In the style of the instrument panel at the front, there is the “G-Cockpit” at the rear. There are three buttons with which the interior lighting and the convertible top can be operated. There are also two glove compartments and the typical G handles in the G-Cockpit. Two 25.4 cm (10 inch) high-resolution media displays for Individual Entertainment are attached to the crossbar, which also holds the partition.

Seat sample Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet

I could now tell you in detail why the Maybach Landaulet based on the G-Class is an anachronism on paper: Not of this world, not for this time you certainly not for normal wallets. All right. But none of this helps, because that's why the Maybach monster doesn't just disappear again. The XXL G model is here to stay. So, close your eyes and get on with it.

However, if you want to sit on the huge reclining chairs in the rear, you should quickly open your eyes again. Because G-Laundaulet passengers sit high. Very high, actually. Including the electrically folding out step, it goes two steps up. That means: Without a certain sportiness, the big performance quickly turns into an involuntarily funny climbing insert. Speaking of sportiness: Heavy-duty customers have to think about alternative boarding options anyway. The folding footboard can only handle 120 kilos.

Just before falling asleep? No, our author was too excited for that when he was allowed to take a seat in the landaulet.

But then it quickly becomes cozy. The two individual seats in first-class style can be adjusted, ventilated and heated in all directions. If you like it, you can even let your seat knead you. Energizing is the name of the massage function that the Mercedes wellness developers use for the hot stone massagehave copied. If you want to, you can be chauffeured through the area almost lying down and deeply relaxed. And “area” can be taken literally. Because the G-Laundaulet remains a real G. portal axles, 450 millimeters of ground clearance, 100% lockable differentials and 630 PS from a V12 biturbo (1,000 Newton meters of torque) take away any horror from nasty slopes.

Nice toy: The partition between the cockpit and the rear. On request, it not only separates the working people behind the wheel acoustically from the people behind, but can also be tinted at the push of a button. Not everyone has to notice when someone in the back feels like sipping the champus with a straw. On the topic of drinks: Thanks to the thermo cup holders, they always come to the guest perfectly chilled or warmed. Two large displays, which can be controlled separately via remote controls, provide entertainment when the electrically controllable top has to stay closed. It's always a good idea when it rains. And if you are in a hurry. It's not only at the electronically regulated 180 km /h top that things get pretty drafty in the landaulet living area.

Anything else? Oh yes, the price. 749,700 euros, including sales tax. But in real life there is a property and an upper-class property. Or the G-Class with a first-class lounge in the rear. After all, there are no features that are subject to an extra charge for the Maybach Landaulet. Everything in there, everything on. You can of course leave something out. That reduces the weight, but not the price.
