Mercedes GLC Coupé occupies SUV coupé niche

M ercedes is gradually expanding its SUV series. After the successor to the M-Class - the GLE - is also being launched with a coupé version, the successor to the GLK - according to the new nomenclature Mercedes GLC - will also receive a coupé derivative. With this, Mercedes would like to have a significant say in the range of compact SUV coupes - not least because the competition in this area is also involved. The X4 is already at the starting line at BMW, and Audi will follow suit with a Q5-based coupé. The Swabians had already shown a first drawing of the GLC Coupé at the Annual General Meeting, and the near-series study will follow at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The GLC Coupé has wheel arch extensions made of plastic on the flanks, running boards on the side sills and exterior mirrors on filigree aluminum brackets. The door handles are fully recessed, the side windows frameless. In the wheel arches turn 21-inch rims with 255/50 tires at the front and 285/45 tires on the rear axle. The roof, fitted with a large panoramic glass, spans flat and long over the beefy substructure. Roof railing elements made of aluminum are used as flanking elements.

The flat rear window merges seamlessly into the trunk. Flat, but wide LED taillights characterize the light signature. In the basement, to the left and right of the underride protection element, double tailpipes lying diagonally on top of each other spread out.

Under the bonnet that has been tried and tested with Powerdomes, the Mercedes GLC Coupé carries a three-liter V6 turbo gasoline engine, like the one in the AMG sports models Use comes. This gives the all-wheel drive 367 hp and 520 Nm of torque. It is shifted by a nine-speed automatic.

The brand had already given a first look at the new Mercedes GLC Coupé at the end of 2014 with the Vision G-Code study. Even if thatModel with a length of 4.10 meters, a height of 1.50 meters and a width of 1.90 meters does not necessarily fall into the class of the compact GLC.
