U nd what can be seen there is more like one Evolution instead of a revolution. The new Mercedes CLS is based heavily on the Mercedes SLS AMG.

The radiator grille is separate and no longer seems to be integrated into the long bonnet. The jagged apron with large, barred air inlets should convey breadth according to Mercedes diction. In the side view, the contoured, massive fenders dominate, while the rear shows itself with redesigned taillights and a modified apron. Narrow windows, frameless panes and the flat sloping roof complete the design elements of a four-door coupé.

Mercedes CLS with 71 LED units

Mercedes is proud when it comes to it the optional headlight unit of the new CLS works. A total of 71 LED units ensure that the lights go on in front of the four-door coupé. The full-LED headlights (called high-performance headlights) are divided into three arrow-shaped levels and cost 1,773 euros extra. The LED indicators are located at the top, below a position light with low beam and at the bottom the high beam LED and night view function. The rear lights, which reach far into the rear fenders, are also equipped with LEDs.

When the order is released on September 15, 2010, the CLS 250 CDI will cost 59,857 euros. The CLS 350 CDI 63,427 euros and the CLS 350 CGI 64,260 euros. For comparison: the current Mercedes CLS 300 with 231 hp costs 57,417 euros, the CLS 350 CDI 61,820 euros. All engines of the Mercedes CLS are equipped with the further developed 7 G-Tronic Plus.

Limited special model in the first year

The standard equipment also includes the electronic helpers known from the Mercedes E-Class. A standard electromechanical power steering EPS (Electric Power Steering) is intended to significantly improve the steering feel and also reduce consumption. In addition, the EPS is coupled with the optional Active Parking Assistant (EUR 868.70). This system recognizes parking spaces and parks independently. Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist are also on board in the Mercedes CLS in conjunction with the € 2,677.50 Driver Assistance Package Plus (including Distronic Plus, BAS Plus and Pre-Safe). In addition, the mandatory airbags are supplemented as standard with knee and pelvic airbags.

This is limited to the first yearSpecial model Mercedes CLS 'Edition 1'. As an optional extra AMG Carbon, the Mercedes CLS then costs 10,115 euros more.

From 2012 Mercedes CLS also as a Shooting Break

In the interior, Mercedes has lend a hand. A high line, affectionately known by Mercedes as the 'wrap-around effect', runs from the doors over the dashboard. Mercedes has placed the three well-known round instruments in deep tubes under the roof of the cockpit. In addition, the TFT color display was housed in a shaft that opened towards the front. Underneath, a square analog clock, which is flanked by matt galvanized air nozzles, sets shiny accents. In the interior, the customer can choose between three types of wood (burr walnut, black ash and light brown poplar) and decorative elements in piano lacquer and chrome as well as a hand-sewn leather finish Launch Shooting Break (X218). The concept study that the Stuttgart-based company presented at Auto China already gave a concrete look at the model with the ample cargo space.
