The research portal 'M @ RS' has been around for around 15 years, but while the multimedia archive and research system - this is what M @ RS stands for - was previously only available to registered journalists and researchers, the 'Public-M @ RS' is open to everyone. Interested parties can register without registration at h ttps://mercedes-benz-publicarchive.com for information. The system has been live since January 30th.

'Fascinating history consists of exciting stories. This applies in particular to the history of Daimler AG, which goes back to the invention of the automobile by Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler in 1886. We want the general public to participate in this even more than before, 'says Michael Bock, Head of Mercedes-Benz Classic and Customer Center. 'With Public-M @ RS we therefore provide information from our unique brand, company and technology history as a comprehensive database.'

Comprehensive documentation of the vehicle history

The portal provides comprehensive information on the vehicle history. Divided into 5 chapters, there is historical image material, technical data, images, patent specifications and information on the company's history.

The five chapters in the Mercedes-Benz Public-M @ RS

  1. Benz & Cie. until 1926
  2. Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Mercedes until 1926
  3. Mercedes-Benz from 1926 to 1945
  4. Mercedes-Benz since 1946
  5. Maybach since 2002

In the respective chapters, the user can navigate through vehicle classes and model series. In addition, Mercedes-Benz Classic gives an overview of current anniversaries. Most exciting, however, should be the illustrated chronicle of the Mercedes-Benz company, which vividly presents the development of the global company broken down by decades, years and months. The timeline extends from the first Daimler engine from 1883 - a horizontal single-cylinder - to the 2010s. The last entry is currently December 23, 2010. On this day, Daimler AG and the Russian commercial vehicle manufacturer GAZ signed a memorandum of understanding in Nizhgi Novgorod in the presence of Vladimir Putin, in order to manufacture the Sprinter in Russia.

Proven foresight

Incidentally, the history of the Mercedes-Benz archive begins as early as 1936 with administrative order no. At that time, Daimler-Benz Aktiengesellschaft commissioned the engineer Max Rauck 'with the collection and viewing of our historical written and image material for the purpose of establishing and maintaining a historical archive'. The Mercedes-Benz archive is one of the largest economic history archives worldwide.
