I n the previous conception, A- and B- Class not suited to AMG, said Källenius about the models with a high roof and front-wheel drive. With the new edition of the A-Class expected for 2012, which will be significantly flatter and more dynamic, this will have to be reconsidered. 'Then things will be interesting for us,' said Källenius.
Targeting BMW and Audi
Industry circles had previously speculated about an AMG version of the next A-Class. With a view to vehicles like the 1 Series M Coupé from BMW or the Audi RS3, there was talk of turbocharged four-cylinder engines that should produce at least 340 hp.
Before there was possibly an A-Class of the Mercedes tuning division , AMG initially launched the CLS 63 AMG in early 2011. The AMG variants of the new M-Class, the next SLK and the SLS Roadster will follow later in the year.
