The unique McLaren X-1 Concept was produced for an anonymous car enthusiast and collector who already owned a McLaren F1 , a Mercedes SLR McLaren and the M cLaren MP4-12C is. Three years ago, the solvent customer expressed the desire for a particularly unique super sports car that combines all the capabilities of the MP4-12C with a body design tailored to his needs. Various vintage cars and buildings as well as a Jaeger LeCoultre watch, an Airstream caravan, a piano and an aubergine (the client supposedly likes the glossy surface of the latter) served as inspiration for the timeless and elegant classic.

On the McLaren X-1 design was filed for 18 months

In order to implement the creative wishes, a design competition was organized at the customer's request, in which internal and external designers took part. The design by the Korean McLaren designer Hong Yeo won. It took 18 months until the final styling of the McLaren X-1 was approved by the customer on a real model made of foam on a scale of 1: 1.

The result is a combination of futuristic design with numerous retro Elements and covers for the rear wheels. Many body parts of the McLaren X-1 are made of carbon fiber elements in black piano lacquer as a contrast to the solid aluminum trim. In contrast, dark carbon elements and the nickel-aluminum switchgear set accents in the interior, which is dominated by red nappa leather.

625 V8 PS from the McLaren MP4-12C

As the technical basis of the McLaren X-1 Concept was taken over by the MP4-12C, the standard 625 hp from the biturbo V8 remains. The standard weight of around 1,400 kilograms should also keep the unique specimen, although the sports car is longer and wider.

The McLaren X-1 one-off was and is extensively tested before its premiere at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance street legal. However, McLaren does not reveal what the unique item cost the customer.
