Although on our own until the start of sales developed MP4-12C will take another year, McLaren is already announcing additional models. 'We will bring a new vehicle or variant onto the market every year,' explains company boss Ron Dennis.
Cabrio and hybrid will follow next
Dennis left the exact time frame open. 'The expansion of the offer is simply necessary to amortize the development costs of the MP4-12C,' says Dennis. All future models of the British use the architecture of the V8 racer, so they have a mid-engine and two seats. As the next variant, an open version will debut in 2012. A hybrid version is also being worked on.
The MP4-12C super sports car, which costs at least 140,000 euros, was developed entirely in-house, from the chassis to the drive train to the infotainment Unit. For series production, a new production facility is currently being built opposite the technology center in Woking, where up to 6,500 vehicles can be built in three-shift operation per year.
35 dealers worldwide
A b At the beginning of 2011, the 600 hp two-seater will be sold worldwide, for which 35 dealers are currently selected. 'In Germany there will be bases in the Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Cologne /Düsseldorf areas,' says Christian Marti, Regional Director for Europe at McLaren.
