North America is the most important market for the Maserati GranTurismo, accordingly the Italians chose New York's Wall Street to present the public with the facelifted version of the sporty touring car Maserati boss Reid Bigland unveiled the new model year at the New York Stock Exchange.
The facelift on Maserati GranTurismo affects the exterior, interior and technology equally and will benefit the GranCabrio as well as the GranTurismo. The refresh is intended to give the sports car introduced in 2007 and sold 37,000 times so far, momentum for the second half of its life cycle.
Drive technology unchanged, aerodynamics optimized
By Maserati GranTurismo and of course analogous to the Maserati GranCabrio, there will be two model variants in the future : The Sport version and the MC, the abbreviation for Maserati Corse, the company's racing division.
In both versions, the Maserati GranTurismo is powered by the well-known 4.7-liter V8, the Ferrari one handcrafted in Maranello. The naturally aspirated engine develops 460 hp at 7,000 rpm and provides a maximum torque of 520 Newton meters. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels exclusively via a six-speed automatic transmission from ZF, which is flange-mounted directly to the engine.
The new Maserati GranTurismo generation can be recognized by its optimized aerodynamics, among other things. The new “Sharknose” hexagonal radiator grille is inspired by the Alfieri concept vehicle and gives the front view of the vehicle a three-dimensional effect. Together with the newly designed lower air ducts, the grill is intended to improve the distribution of the air flow and thus reduce the drag coefficient from cW 0.33 to 0.32. The rear bumper on the Maserati GranTurismo has also been redesigned. There are two versions for the sport and the MC model.
Since nothing changes in terms of performance, the performance remains almost unchanged despite the optimized aerodynamics. The new Maserati GranTurismo Sport accelerates from zero to 100 km /h in 4.8 seconds. Hereaches a top speed of 299 km /h. The slightly lighter Maserati GranTurismo MC sprints to 100 km /h in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 301 km /h.
New large touchscreen
The interior of GranTurismo and GranCabrio still offers space for four adults. The leather upholstery comes from Poltrona Frau. Alternatively, the coupé and convertible are also available with a combination of leather and Alcantara.
New in the 2018 model year range, the GranTurismo and GranCabrio have a high-resolution 8.4-inch touchscreen and a Harman Kardon Premium Sound System . The infotainment system is compatible with both the smartphone mirror functions Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is operated with a double rotary knob made of forged aluminum, which is placed in the newly designed center console. The controls for the various driving modes are located on the lower center console next to the gear knob.
Prices for the revised Maserati models start at 126,100 euros for the GranTurismo Sport coupé, while the MC version requires at least 149,250 euros. The Sport version of the GranCabrio starts at 143,200 euros, while the GranCabrio MC costs from 154,650 euros. The new Maserati models can be ordered now.
