2 009 saw the big change: with the second generation of the Kia Sorento, the Koreans finally said goodbye to solid off-road vehicle technology. The Kia Sorento 2 is a modern SUV, a reduction is now missing as well as a ladder frame - both attributes that helped the first generation to perform well in the field.

From an economic point of view, the right decision, because the new Sorento turned out to be a crowd puller - not least thanks to the generous seven-year guarantee that Kia grants. After three years, however, it is now time to refresh the look.

However, not much will change in the appearance of the 4.7 meter long mid-range SUV. The basic shape of the body remains unchanged, but there are optical retouches on the front and rear. The most noticeable change at the front is the new apron. Instead of the small round headlights that were stuck deep in black caves, there are now rectangular additional lights that are optically better integrated into the apron (now with an additional cooling air opening).

The graphics of the main headlights have also been renewed. Small projection headlights are now supported by an LED daytime running light strip running over the top. The now more filigree chrome surround of the radiator grille has also been modified.

The changes to the rear of the Kia Sorento after the facelift are more noticeable. The quite large LED taillights are much more delicate in the facelift model, no longer pull themselves into the tailgate at full height. This gets a new, continuous crossbar instead of the previous half-wide chrome strip. The top of the rear apron is now painted in the same color as the vehicle, and the additional lights are integrated upright.

On the engine side, the 2.4-liter gasoline engine and the 2.2-liter turbodiesel remain, which can each be combined with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Presumably, both units will be optimized in terms of performance, consumption and emissions. The revised Kia Sorento will celebrate its premiere at the Paris Motor Show in autumn.
