G Joachim Schmidt was born on September 7, 1948 in Sindelfingen. Schmidt studied mathematics at the University of Stuttgart and received his doctorate there in 1976. Joachim Schmidt started his career at Procter & Gamble a year later. He began his career at Daimler in 1979 as a main group leader in car development. After a stopover at Brose, Schmidt returned to Daimler in 1988.
There, Joachim Schmidt initially took on the role of assistant to the chairman of the board, and then headed the main secretariat of Mercedes-Benz AG. From 1991 Schmidt was director of corporate planning, 1992 director of sales planning for passenger cars. From 1995 onwards, Schmidt was in charge of sales and marketing for passenger cars, and from 1998 he was also spokesman for the A /C class management. In 1999 Joachim Schmidt became a member of the Mercedes Car Group executive board, responsible for sales and marketing.
