D as new plant, in which the British have invested 1.4 billion euros, was built in Nitra in western Slovakia. The new plant in Nitra marks the latest step in the company's global expansion strategy following the opening of the Chinese joint venture in 2014 and the Brazilian plant in 2016, supported by contract manufacturing in India since 2011 and Austria since 2017.

Production capacity is 150,000 cars a year

Jaguar Land Rover currently employs around 1,500 people in Nitra, 98 percent are Slovak nationals and around 30 percent of the workforce are women. In November the company will start the second local recruiting phase and are looking for another 850 people for its team in Nitra. The 300,000 m² facility is designed for an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The first Land Rover Discovery rolled off the assembly line in September. Allegedly, the upcoming new Defender will also be built here.

Jaguar Land Rover purchases a number of components such as seats and wheels from the region via a supplier network in the immediate vicinity in order to produce the Land Rover Discovery in Nitra support, creating several thousand additional jobs in the automotive supply chain in Slovakia.
