D thereafter, the sports car manufacturer Porsche can grow the most. IHS believes the Zuffenhausen company will achieve a 24.8 percent increase in sales to 200,100 vehicles worldwide. The new Macan compact SUV is primarily responsible for the plus, which IHS believes will make high gains in Europe, China, the Middle East and the USA.

BMW remains in front with premium suppliers

According to the IHS 2014, Mercedes and BMW can also expect strong growth. Accordingly, with a plus of 7.7 percent, Mercedes-Benz achieved the second strongest growth figures of all German manufacturers and sold 1,669,150 vehicles worldwide. Mercedes would even just oust Audi from second place among the premium manufacturers. Audi only believes IHS will achieve an increase of 4.4 percent to 1,662,100 vehicles. BMW remains the strongest premium brand. According to the IHS, the Munich-based company will increase by 7.4 percent to 1,768,200 vehicles and thus sell 100,000 more cars each than Mercedes and Audi.

On the other hand, Volkswagen will stagnate. As in 2013, the Wolfsburg-based company will sell around 6,293,100 cars, according to the IHS. The IHS analysts, however, attest poor prospects to the car manufacturer Opel, which has just returned to the road to success. Opel will therefore not be able to maintain sales of 1,040,500 cars in the past year and will fall by 6.1 percent to 977,400 vehicles.
