Twelve new models this year
'With the construction of new factories in the USA and Russia last year, the group has now set up a production and sales system for a global manufacturer, 'said Hyundai Chairman Chung Mong Koo in a New Year's address to the workforce. The company wants to make 2011 a historic year, promised Chung. The world's fifth-largest auto company is primarily relying on increasing demand in China and other emerging markets. The introduction of at least twelve new or revised models is also intended to increase sales.
Hyundai and Kia are booming in China and the USA
Both Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors recorded last year a sales record. As Hyundai announced, sales climbed 16.1 percent to more than 3.6 million vehicles. In China alone, sales for Hyundai increased by 23 percent to 702,000 vehicles last year. In the USA, sales exceeded half a million cars.
Kia was able to increase worldwide sales to more than two million cars for the first time. Sales of around 2.13 million cars corresponded to an increase of almost 39 percent compared to 2009
