Honda CRZ EV: test drive in a 350-hp electric car

Electric car Honda CR-Z EV for 2018
Subscriptions & booklets

V on the outside the Honda CR-Z looks EV Concept actually looks rather inconspicuous. Ok, the extra-wide fenders are a bit noticeable, but no comparison to the Pikes Peak racing car that is parked a few meters away. The Japanese racing driver Tetsuya Yamano raced up the famous hill climb in 10 minutes and 23 seconds - faster than anyone else in the vehicle class. The highlight: The electric racer is powered by four electric motors, which bring it to a system output of over 500 hp.

350 hp for acceleration to 100 in 3.6 seconds

In the production version it should only be a good 350 hp, but that's easily enough for the compact sports car. For the first trip, a model with even less power is ready for a test lap on the handling course at the Honda development center. After a few meters it is clear: The CR-Z still has enough power, accelerates from zero to 100 km /h in around 3.6 seconds.

However, it is not only the variable power distribution of the four E- Engines, but also the new all-wheel steering, with which the 1,600 kg car can be directed extremely precisely and quickly even through tight bends. The top speed of the near-series prototype is 210 km /h.

Full charge in 30 minutes?

Honda is aiming an electric range of at least 400 km. The lithium-ion battery should be fully recharged at a Japanese quick-charging station in just 30 minutes.

'We want to get it to market very quickly,' said a Honda developer during test drives in Tochigi auto motor und sport . It is said that Honda's answer to Tesla could hit the market before 2018.
