T he beginnings of the Great Wall Motor Company lie in 1976 in the north Chinese city of Boading. The company has been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2003 and now employs around 22,000 people. In 2010 the production capacity is to be increased from the current 400,000 to 500,000 vehicles per year and the desired sales are in this order of magnitude.

In addition to a research and development center as well as a test and crash test area, the company owns an engine production for the independently developed engines with an annual capacity of 200,000 engines. Great Wall Motor currently also has factories in Indonesia, Iran, Nigeria, Vietnam, Ukraine, and Russia. Great Wall manufactures small cars, vans, pickups and SUVs which, according to the company, are offered in over 120 countries, including European nations since 2006.

This is the Great Wall model range

The range is very extensive and starts with the small GW-Peri , which is reminiscent of the Fiat Panda and is only 3.55 meters long measures. With its 88 hp engine, it rolls into the new model year unchanged. Above this is the Florid , 3.90 meters long and now available with 1.3 and 1.5 liter engines. The trunk volume is an impressive 330 liters in this class.

The Sing is a 4.81 meter long SUV, which is characterized by a variable interior, which is particularly popular in China. The third row of seats can be completely removed here. Its four-cylinder engine has a displacement of 2.3 liters, but it only produces 102 hp, which is transferred to the front axle.

The Safe is a structurally identical modification, which also has the same dimensions. Based on the second Toyota 4Runner generation, the SUV is offered with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The Hover is optionally available with switchable all-wheel drive, otherwise the 4, 62 meter long all-terrain vehicle via rear-wheel drive. While the basic engine comes from Mitsubishi, the other engine variants are in-house developments. The extensive equipment, which also includes a sun canopy from Webasto, is remarkable. The hover has also been available in several European countries since 2007. So he willfor example in Italy as a petrol engine with a gas system (Euro 4 standard). With the Great Wall Hover Pi, the Chinese also have a long version with a maximum of seven meters in their range.
