No series production planned
The concept tire should be able to deliver energy in two ways. Thermoelectric material converts the heat that is produced by the ultra-black texture inside the tire when the tire is stationary through light /heat absorption and while driving through rolling into electrical energy. When in motion, piezoelectric material converts the structural deformations caused by pressure into electrical energy. The electrical energy produced by the tire can be fed to the batteries of a vehicle's hybrid drive and other on-board technologies.
As fantastic as this concept sounds, the company is not currently planning to bring the tire onto the market . However, other components such as the 3-D network, which represents the inner support structure of the tire, could be integrated into future run-flat tires. In addition, the concept tire has a large circumferential channel to increase resistance to aquaplaning and a unique noise-absorbing tread. These components could also be used in future series tires.
