
This year the Auto Salon should take place from March 5th to 15th, 2020 - two days in advance, media representatives are invited to the press days. Because of the Corona virus , the Swiss Federal Council prohibited all public and private events with more than 1,000 people on Friday (February 28, 2020). This ban applies immediately and until March 15, 2020. As a result, the organizer Palexpo in Geneva has officially canceled the fair. What was planned for Geneva
The Volkswagen Group alone put together a big novelty package for the Geneva Motor Show. The Wolfsburg-based company wanted to show the Golf 8 derivatives GTI, GTD and the hybrid version GTE. Group subsidiary Seat had also planned a Golf derivative as a trade fair premiere: the new Seat Leon and its station wagon version as well as the Leon from Cupra. The sub-brand also shows the Formentor - not now in Geneva. Skoda wanted to show the RS versions of the Octavia, which is also related to the Golf, including the Combi on Lake Geneva.
Mercedes with AMG SUV
But the other German carmakers also had big plans for it the spring fair: BMW is showing another electric study at the beginning of March with the Vision i4, Mercedes is more conventional and intended to lure the audience with the AMG SUV GLE 63 Coupé and GLA 45. The facelift version of the E-Class is also celebrating its premiere.
The new Hyundai i30 and i20, the Fiat 500e and the Kia Sorento were also planned as trade fair innovations. In addition to the Rimac C-Two, an electric sports car with 1,915 hp, the smaller manufacturers and design forges also presented their innovations in Switzerland.
Even before the trade fair was canceled, Opel, Peugeot, Citroën, Ford and Lamborghini had one Stay away announced - without connection to the coronavirus.
