Model years 1998 to 2003 are affected - but only those cars that are in the cold regions of the US and all of Canada. The problem is the road salt that is deposited on the axle and promotes rust.

Recall will start at the end of September

The US traffic safety authorities made the recall public on Friday (August 27th). In the United States itself, almost 463,000 Windstar are affected. They are to be scrutinized from the end of September.

So far, Ford got off lightly in terms of technical defects. In contrast, General Motors, Chrysler and, above all, Toyota had to contend with a regular wave of recalls. Since the Toyota disaster, the industry has been very sensitive to breakdowns with sticking gas pedals and sliding floor mats.
