D ie cylinder deactivation should always switch off the fuel injection and the valve actuation for one of the three combustion chambers fully automatically when little power is lost. A cylinder can be switched off and on in just 14 milliseconds. Among other things, speed, throttle valve position and load status are taken into account.

A lot of effort for smoothness

In order to maintain the smoothness of the three-cylinder engine, Ford relies on a new type of offset of the crankshaft and a newly developed flywheel and a newly developed pulley that counteracts the engine vibrations with precisely calculated imbalances. The engine mounts, drive shafts and the bushings of the wheel suspension have also been adapted to achieve maximum smoothness.

The 1.0-liter three-cylinder Ecoboost engine is currently available in three output levels with 100, 125 and 140 hp to have. The new version will start in the next Ford Focus.
