Flexible parking prices in multi-storey car parks: parking costs according to occupancy

D he flexible pricing system, APCOA calls it Dynamic Pricing System, will initially be introduced in 36 selected parking garages. The flexible parking price is intended to contribute to the intelligent control of traffic flows.

The flexible tariff adjustment is linked to the real-time utilization in the respective parking garage. The hourly rate adapts to this - in other words, the price is changed based on supply and demand. For example, it drops when only a few parking spaces are occupied. The respective hourly price is shown on LED boards at the entrance. The parking prices start at at least one euro per hour and apply for the entire duration of the parking, even if the parking garage continues to fill up during the day.

Better parking garage utilization expected

Of course, APCOA has not only Optimized traffic flows in mind, but also thinks about your own interests. With the flexible pricing system, parking garages can be better utilized. In addition, lower tariffs can also attract customers who have previously shied away from parking garages. Initial experience shows that flexible pricing actually attracts more parking customers.

The dynamic pricing system has already been successfully tested in Stuttgart, Hamburg and Dresden and is now in permanent use there. It has now also been introduced in Berlin, Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Frankfurt, among others. In the future, APCOA wants to equip even more parking garages nationwide with the flexible pricing system.
