D as was announced on Saturday (January 15th) at the plant of the Italian car company. The government in Rome welcomed the approval of the new collective agreement.
Now there is substantial investment
After the agreement prepared for Mirafiori, which was categorically rejected, especially by the left-wing union Cgil-Fiom , one billion euros is to be invested in the plant - also to build a new Jeep there together with the US partner Chrysler.
The Turin-based company holds 25 percent of Chrysler and is exploring a majority takeover. Cgil-Fiom had rejected the tariff system for the main plant as 'scandalous'. Marchionne, in turn, threatened to make this investment abroad if the workforce refused.
Critics call Marchionne's drastic demands for the main plant 'modern slavery', supporters speak of a new era of car manufacturing in Italy. Around 120,000 vehicles were built in Mirafiori last year. According to Marchionne's plans, production is to be more than doubled. Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had hoped for a positive outcome in order to secure the location of Italy for the most powerful industrial group in the country. It is about possible total investments of the Turin car manufacturer of around 20 billion euros in Italy, as Marchionne had announced.
