That the youngest mid-engine athlete from the stable F errari will sooner or later get an open variant aside , was to be expected. However, it comes as a surprise that the Ferrari 458 Spider does without a fabric top, as its predecessors wore, and instead uses an aluminum hardtop.

The fixed roof consists of two elements lying one behind the other. At the push of a button, the boot lid is raised and the roof is swiveled 180 degrees to the rear over the engine compartment before the boot lid is lowered again. The hardtop should be around 25 kilograms lighter than a conventional fabric hood.

Directly behind the seats, two humps encircle the roll bars underneath and fall down into the ventilation ducts of the engine compartment.
