CNG instead of diesel
VW itself wants the CNG drive to play the role as a replacement for economical diesel engines in the long term. The company announced this at the Vienna Motor Symposium. The new Polo in the CNG variant should play a key role in this. When it comes to corrosion on gas tanks, the carmaker wants to take all the worries out of its customers - the tanks will be made of carbon fiber laminate in the future. They will continue to run until 2026, but will be melted off from 2024. While gasoline is currently taxed at 65.5 cents /liter and diesel at 47 cents /liter, Group H natural gas is 18.3 cents /kg. The tax on liquefied gas is currently 9.1 cents /liter.
