D the sword of Damocles called' Fahrverbot 'hovers over the Commercial vehicle industry. And literally electrifies them. Because traffic in large cities will increasingly have to do without the diesel engine in the future. The 'CEP' services are particularly affected by this: 'Courier, Express, Parcels' - in the age of online trading, their share in city traffic continues to increase.

The providers of suitable electrical alternatives are now pushing with corresponding force on the market. Corresponding solutions are available at the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover (September 20-27), from small city runabouts to large-capacity box vans. The difference to the IAA two years ago: Instead of studies and visions of the future, it is now products that can actually be ordered, with which the industry should go on a delivery tour in the future.

How In the case of electric cars in general, the traction batteries are also very expensive in vans, which often more than doubles the basic price compared to conventionally powered models. In return, the maintenance costs are drastically reduced, and if subsidies are used, there is even a zero-sum game in the long run, the manufacturers calculate. It is no longer just small start-ups such as street scooters that are the driving force behind the topic of electric vans. The big players in the industry have also recognized the signs of the times and are working on a networked complete range for customers with an affinity for electronics, in some cases even taking on the planning and implementation of the charging infrastructure. container '>

Why exactlyThe vans are taking the lead as electric pioneers at the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover. Compared to heavy trucks, the tonnages required for CEP services can still be operated with a relatively manageable output and thus also with relatively small traction batteries. And last but not least: The modular structure of the drive batteries, which are usually stowed under the vehicle floor, also allows lower ranges to be implemented more cost-effectively. Because for many applications, an action radius of 80 to 100 kilometers between charging breaks is completely sufficient.

The eVito from Mercedes relies on electric drive technology from the car sector. The first 1,000 buyers get a wallbox for free.

The most important models in Hanover

The electric drive in mass production lives on with the manufacturers of synergies. For example, Mercedes uses drive and battery technology from the passenger car sector (adapted accordingly) in light commercial vehicles. This is the case with the drive for the eVito and the eSprinter. Both transporters are driven by an 84 kW electric motor, the technology of which comes from the GLC F-Cell. Mercedes builds the engine and all components required for operation, such as the power electronics, into a complete package with the dimensions and suspension points of a conventional combustion engine, which simplifies installation. This use of components in different series means that, similar to conventional combustion engines, a lower price can of course be achieved by correspondingly higher quantities.

The electric crafter is only available as a van, other types of construction are not available.

The box vans from VW and its sister company MAN are also double fleets. VW Crafter and MAN E-TGE rely on an electric drive with a maximum output of 100 kW, which, however, is throttled to a lower output in normal operation. Depending on the approval, the van (no other designs are planned) can carry a payload of up to 1.7 tonnes. The van, which is limited to a maximum speed of 90 km /h (still measured according to the NEDC) should allow a range of 175 kilometers. VW also has a price for this: 69,500 euros net.

Nissan
Nissan's e-NV200 is one of the cheapest electric vans on the market.

The prices are a bit more popular at Renault-Nissan, where you can look back on a very extensive electric drive experience with various car models. The new Renault Master ZE, a van in the Sprinter class, starts at 71,300 euros including tax. The lower price is also due to the size of the battery; a relatively small 33 kWh battery is installed here. Renault offers the Master in various body types, including as a chassis for bodies from third-party providers. With the Kangoo Z.E. For around 25,000 euros, suppliers with little space requirements are primarily addressed. However, the low price is only achieved because a monthly battery rental is due. If you want to buy the battery, you will get around 10,000 euros more. A price alternative to this comes from the group: The Nissan e-NV Evalia with the drive train from the Leaf is available from 34,150 euros.
