C-Class production in South Africa
In June, VW already had the expansion of capacities in South Africa announced. Over 70 million euros are to flow into the expansion of the press shop in Uitenhage near Port Elisabeth and into a new logistics center in Centurion near Pretoria. Since 2006, VW had already invested around 500 million euros in South Africa, where the new Polo is also being built.
The South African Daimler plant in East London is the fourth production site in addition to Germany, China and the USA which the new C-Class is to be built. Daimler board member Wolfgang Bernhard praised the high quality standard of car production at the South African subsidiary. This is another reason why Daimler has invested around five billion rand in the Cape over the past ten years. In addition to Mercedes and VW, the German automaker also has a production facility in South Africa.
