Chevrolet presented both versions of the Super-Vette at the L.A. Auto Show. They can be ordered in the USA from December 2017, and the first cars are due to roll out to US customers in the spring. One could already buy his dream car now. As part of a Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, the Corvette ZR1 with the chassis number VIN 001 was auctioned for a good cause on Friday (January 19, 2018). According to the price list, the coupé is already available for around 120,000 dollars, the chassis number 1 brought in a whopping 925,000 dollars.
Supercharged V8 with 766 hp
GM had already had the type code ZR1 protected in May 2016. In generations C3, C4 and C6, the most powerful Corvette still had the abbreviation ZR-1. Harlan Charles, product manager for the Corvette, said the hyphen was left out for weight reasons - kidding. In truth, it was about standardization - the Z06 is also written without a hyphen. It provides the basis for the new power model. The heart of the new Corvette ZR1 is the new LT5 V8 engine with supercharging. It makes 766 hp and provides a maximum torque of a gigantic 969 Nm. The leap in performance compared to the LT4 in the Corvette Z06 is primarily due to an optimized injection and an improved charge air cooling system. That takes more space, so a mighty gray “power dome” sits enthroned on the bonnet. If you open it, you can see that the middle section on the V8is screwed and the hood has a corresponding recess.
In addition to a manual seven-speed gearbox, the new ZR1 is also available with an eight-speed automatic for the first time. The convertible version of the ZR1 can open and close its soft top fully automatically up to a speed of 50 km /h.
Of course, the new, dry 1,598 kilograms - the convertible weighs 27 kg more -, ZR1 is also fast, faster than any Corvette before her. It should create the sprint from zero to 98 km /h in 3.0 seconds. In addition, the ZR1 should be able to reach 342 km /h as a coupe. The convertible is still faster than 320 km /h
The aprons have been modified for the ZR1. At the front, significantly larger cooling air intakes satisfy the increased air requirement of the V8 and the total of 13 radiators. The front spoiler is also new. The strongly perforated carbon hood ensures the engine compartment ventilation. There is a mighty carbon spoiler on the rear, which is offered in two versions. The basic version increases the downforce by 70% compared to the Z06 and is intended for high-speed driving. For circuit use, the ZR1 relies on a larger spoiler that can be adjusted in two stages, which is supposed to increase downforce by 60%. Then the Corvette press 450 kilograms of downforce onto the asphalt at top speed. There are also new front splitters, Michelin Cup2 tires and a new setup for the electronically controlled chassis. The sports package costs around $ 3,000 extra.
Special paint for Super Corvette
The stoppers use carbon-ceramic discs and six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear as standard. 285/30 tires rotate on the 19-inch rims at the front, while 335/25 rollers are used on 20-inch rims at the rear.
With the ZR1, the exclusive paintwork in Sebring is also new Orange that is paired with numerous other orange components. The interior of the Corvette ZR1 is adorned with nappa leather and lots of Alcantara. Optionally, there are ventilated and heated sports seats, a steering wheel with carbon inlays, a data recording tool and a Bose sound system.
The new Corvette ZR1 is expected to go on sale in the US in spring 2018 . The ZR1 as a coupe costs from $ 119,995, the convertible version was priced at $ 123,995. Tax is added to both prices. The Z06 is available from $ 80,000 in the USA.
