The Chevrolet Colorado, together with the S sister model GMC Canyon one the new hope at General Motors, has put on good war paint for the Los Angeles Motorshow. The one and a half cab pickup was converted by Chevrolet into an all-terrain beast. The higher suspension was equipped with components from the US specialist King Shocks, who is particularly well known in off-road racing. An unusual idea: the external reservoirs of the front dampers on the Colorado ZR2 Concept have been relocated to the front apron so that they are easily accessible for adjustment work.

Instead of the long-drawn series bumper, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Concept uses an extremely harmoniously integrated retrofit model, which improves the approach angle and provides more space the wheels. A hidden electric winch is integrated. The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, which is ten centimeters wider than the production model, has 18-inch tires in size 275/65. The spare wheel was mounted on the loading area with a quick-release lock, and a hi-lift jack ensures that there is no lack of company. Differential locks are installed at the front and rear.

The most important detail, however, is the engine: in the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Concept, the new 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder dies, a rather unusual approach in the USA and this vehicle class. The machine was promised at the start of sales of the Chevrolet Colorado, now there is talk of the Duramax actually celebrating its market launch in mid-2015.

With 181 hp and a torque of 500 Newton meters, the Duramax engine delivers in a six-speed automatic, one could also imagine the Colorado in Europe. Especially since as a mid-size pickup it is not as unwieldy as its big buddies from the States.

It has not yet been decided whether Chevrolet will actually offer the Colorado to end customers as the ZR2. The predecessor, the Chevrolet S10, already had a ZR2 variant with a higher chassis and large off-road tires ex works. Also the considerable success of the Ford Raptor should be a certain incentive to actually compete with an off-road optimized Colorado version.
