Why does the 310 hp Porsche Boxster S exactly 9,729 euros more than the base model with 255 PS? The answer is pure speculation, but the price /performance ratio may make the difference. Every horsepower in the Porsche Boxster - whether with or without an S - costs almost exactly 180 euros. Not exactly cheap, but quite common in these circles, like a look at the roadsters from Mercedes (SLK 280: 184 euros per hp) and B MW (Z4 sDrive 23i: 176 euros per hp).
More power with volume discounts
However, BMW and Mercedes meet their customers in terms of price when they use the more powerful engines. Additional performance with volume discounts - not uncommon within a series. If you buy the most powerful BMW Z4 version sDrive 35i the price for each of the 306 hp to 155 euros. BMW fans get the double-charged six-cylinder engine even more cheaply if they change model series and opt for the BMW 135i Coupé. Then the price-performance ratio levels off at 130 euros per hp.
If you don't want to do without a sports car, you can choose between the Opel GT (264 PS) or the Nissan 350Z (313 PS), which is even undercut by its successor 370Z (331 PS at 117 euros each), which will be available from summer. Only sports sedans from the compact segment offer lower tariffs. The brand new Ford Focus RS with 305 turbo hp offers the highest performance in this class at a unit price of 111 euros, while the Dodge Caliber SRT4 has 295 hp at 107 euros on the driven front wheels. The Mazda 3 MPS is satisfied with 260 PS, but costs only 25,600 euros - that results in an unbeatable low price of 98.5 euros per hp.
Abundant power from 133 euros per hp
WhomIf 300 HP is not enough, the search for low-priced high-performance models will find what they are looking for, especially from American manufacturers. Chrysler produces 430 hp in the beefy 300C SRT8 6 , 1 liter displacement for 143 euros per hp. The counterpart of Cadillac is in the CTS -V even 564 hp at 133 euros each. For comparison: With similarly motorized cars from German production - Audi RS6 (580 PS) or BMW M5 (507 hp) are due around 185 euros per hp. In contrast, the more compact, but also lavishly equipped Mercedes C 63 AMG (457 hp) with 151 euros per hp turns out to be almost a special offer.
Sports cars, however, are in short supply at this tariff. In this PS category is the 437 PS strong Corvette (149 euros per horsepower) alone on a wide hallway. The prices of this species are usually significantly higher. Example Porsche: For the 911 at least 241 euros per hp are called, for the 911 Turbo (480 hp) it is already 298 euros. Ferrari only delivers from 346 euros per hp (F 430 with 477 hp) and asks for up to 500 euros at 612 Scaglietti (540 hp).
Nevertheless, the most expensive horsepower is not in Italy's super sports car. The price for each of the 626 HP at 493,385 euros adds up to Mercedes SLR McLaren Roadster for a proud 789 euros. And that is also cheaper compared to the Bugatti Veyron 16.4. His fourfold charged 16-cylinder Bugatti Veyron 16.4 not only develops the most horsepower among super sports cars with 1,001, but also the most expensive ones at 1,300 euros per horsepower.
