1 963 26 professional car testers from nine countries sat down in a jury and created the award 'Car of the Year' or 'Car of the Year'. The prize was first awarded in 1964. The group of experts now consists of 58 journalists from 22 European countries. The winner is presented annually at the Geneva Motor Show.

In 2016 the new Opel Astra won the prize, in 2017 it was the Peugeot 3008. But do you know, for example, who won the first prize in 1964? Or which models have already won several awards?

The Rover 2000 won the first 'Car of the Year' title. Only the Renault Clio and the VW Golf were able to make double entries in the list of winners in 53 years. And even the long-faded Simca brand can be found on the top spot on the podium in two years.

If you want to know which car won the title in your year of birth (after 1963), take a look in our photo show.
