Cadillac secures CT and XT: New series abbreviations for GM subsidiary

Cadillac secures CT and XT
Subscriptions & booklets

A TS, CTS, ELR, SRX, XTS and Escalade - the nomenclature of the US car maker Cadillac does not currently offer a clear structure. That should change in the future. To this end, the Americans have now protected various series abbreviations.

Nomenclature from CT and XT models

In the future, Cadillac's model portfolio will be divided into XT and CT models. The abbreviations CT2, CT3, CT4, CT5, CT6, CT7 and CT8 and analogously the abbreviations XT2, XT3, XT4, XT5, XT6, XT7 and XT8 are now protected.

CT should be used for all upcoming sedans , Coupes and convertibles are available, the XT label is reserved for SUV and crossover models. CT6 has already been confirmed for the upcoming new large Cadillac, which from 2015 will compete with competitors such as the BMW 7 Series, the Audi A8 or the Mercedes S-Class as well as the Japanese and Korean luxury sedans. CT7 could then stand for a coupé derived from it and CT8 for a convertible.

In general, the new model series abbreviations should only be introduced with a model change or an extensive model revision.
