W ie Der Spiegel reports that the Italian police prevented the theft of Enzo Ferrari's body. A gang of criminals apparently wanted to extort ransom from the Ferrari family. There had already been a detailed plan of how the coffin should be stolen, hidden and the family contacted.

Actually, the police had investigated the gang for drug and arms trafficking, and they discovered the plans by chance. 300 police officers were involved in a raid to prevent the body from being stolen. More than 30 suspects were arrested.

Ferrari died in 1988 at the age of 90 and was buried in a cemetery in Modena. His coffin of the Commendatore stands behind a marble slab in a crypt that is closed with a metal lattice door.
