Externally, the BMW M5 only makes a subtle, but still very effective powerhouse. But more on that later. Things really get down to business under the bonnet of the new BMW M5. Where a five-liter V10 high-speed engine provided power in the previous generation, the new generation relies on the power from forced ventilation.
M5 with special package up to 305 km /h
The 4.4-liter V8 engine is still allowed to rev up - the maximum speed is only 7,200 rpm. on - but draws its superior power from the overpressure from two turbochargers. When they blow properly, a whopping 560 hp and a maximum torque of 680 Nm are generated via the newly developed seven-speed dual clutch transmission, which transmits its power exclusively to the rear wheels.
If you want to know, the BMW M5 Catapult from zero to 100 km /h in 4.4 seconds. 200 km /h should be reached after just 13 seconds. The electronics shut down at 250 km /h, unless you have invested in the M Drivers Package, in which case the M5 driver can enjoy a top speed of 305 km /h.
Because but also an M model with expensive fuel has to manage, the BMW M5 also has numerous components from the Efficient Dynamics kit. Among other things, energy is recovered when braking and when the traffic light stops, the V8 goes to rest. The bottom line is that BMW promises a standard consumption of 9.9 liters per 100 kilometers for the M5.
Individually programmable driving programs
Dynamics is also the keyword when it comes to moving ahead in the BMW M5. An electronically controlled limited slip differential ensures optimum traction. Adaptive dampers ensure contact with the road. DSC slows down too brash pilots. For those who love it spicier, the 5 series can be sharpened in two stages with a drive button on the steering wheel. The travel programs can be configured individually in various parameters beforehand. Because BMW M5 drivers also have to brake from time to time, the 1.9-tonne sedan is decelerated by 400 mm discs at the front and 396 mm discs at the rear, each in combination with six-piston calipers.
19-inch M. -Alloy rims thatcan be paired with 265/40 tires at the front and 295/35 tires at the rear.
M-Look for the 5er
If the BMW M5 doesn't crave dynamic movement, there is time to study its M characteristics. M-design exterior mirrors, the redesigned front apron with extra-large air inlets for the cooler and the brake system, flared wheel arches, gill elements in the front fenders, a rear apron with an integrated diffuser and a small spoiler lip on the trunk lid. Not to forget the obligatory four-pipe exhaust system, which forms a pair on the left and right.
In the interior, the BMW M5 distances itself from its civilian brothers with M sport seats, a newly designed instrument cluster, special interior trims and leather upholstery a black headliner. Of course, all comfort options of the normal 5 Series are available, and its assistance systems can also be combined with the M5. And even friends of urgent train goods are served by BMW, because the M5 can tow up to two tons.
