BMW Holo Active Touch: new operating concept for CES 2017

B MW moves the Operation closer to the driver: for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES, January 5 to 8, 2017) in Las Vegas, the BMW i Inside Future study is showing a new interior with the “Holo Active Touch” virtual operating concept. That sounds incomprehensible at first.

Virtual control surface next to the steering wheel

Roughly speaking, a head-up display projects a full-color user interface, i.e. the switches and controls, next to the steering wheel. A camera observes the driver's fingers. With a little finger gesture, he can turn up the radio or select services from the Connected Drive range. Holo Active Touch gives him haptic feedback. With the i Inside Concept, BMW would like to show an interior that could be built into future autonomous vehicles. BMW presented the gesture control in the current 5 and 7 series during the CES in 2015.
