Like the new Mercedes A-Klasse comes the little BMW also with self-developed three-cylinder engines - either on the M ini platform, or if this becomes too expensive, on a purchased front-wheel drive platform. The performance spectrum ranges from 90 to 170 hp
Individual variants will also be available as hybrid versions. The automatic start-stop system is standard.
The BMW City as a prominent Project i offshoot
BMW will offer the BMW City as a further model in the compact class, previously known as Project i. Also four meters long and with space for four people, this vehicle has nothing to do with the aforementioned entry-level BMW. The BMW Mega City Vehicle, as the official name is, will combine a high proportion of lightweight components and house the electric drive train of the BMW ActiveE. With its 125 kW electric motor with 250 Nm torque and liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, this enables a range of 160 kilometers.

The one on the Detroit Motor Show presented BMW Concept ActiveE weighs around 1,800 kilograms, the BMW Mega City, on the other hand, should be significantly lighter. However, it is unclear how BMW intends to accommodate the battery in the compact BMW. The BMW Mega City is designed for city dwellers and, in addition to sophisticated multimedia technology, has various electronic helpers ready for travel in the urban jungle. Further model variants are to follow on the platform of the small BMW. The two-door electric car will initially be available in 2014 as a four-seater, later a two-seater will follow.
