BMW brings super turbo: 4 chargers for the six-cylinder diesel

D he super Six-cylinder is to be based on the well-known Tri-Turbo. The core element of the new engine is a newly designed permanent two-stage turbocharger, consisting of two low-pressure and two high-pressure exhaust gas turbochargers. The BMW technicians indicate the performance of the 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 400 hp. The maximum torque will be 760 Nm. The consumption figure for the new Quadturbo in the BMW 7 Series is 5.7 liters.

According to the technicians, the Quadturbo, the BMW itself 'V8 Fighter' calls it, also deliver more torque, but the limiting factor here is the power transmission, i.e. the eight-speed automatic. Like the 381 PS and 740 Nm strong Tri-Turbo, the new diesel is generally coupled to an all-wheel drive. With the new diesel engine, BMW is aiming directly at the new power diesel in the Audi SQ7 . Its four-liter V8 develops 435 hp and 900 Nm.

In addition to achieving these maximum values, emphasis was placed on a rev range that could be used as widely as possible. On the one hand, at least 90% of the maximum torque should be available in the engine speed range from 1,600 to 4,100 rpm, on the other hand, at least 80% of the engine power can be called up in the engine speed range from 3,000 to 5,000 rpm.

The new quad turbo has an output of 400 hp and 760 Nm.

For the sprint from zero to 100 km /h in the BMW 750d xDrive are specified as 4.6 seconds, the long version takes 4.7 seconds. The top speed is reached at a regulated 250 km /h. The new diesel will go on sale in July 7th. Prices have not yet been announced. The new Quadturbo based on the B57 diesel is likely to find its way into the 5, X5, X6 and X7 series.
