B BMW already exhibited at the Beijing Motor Show in mid-2010 the four-door Gran Coupé study was presented and a warning shot was fired towards the Mercedes CLS, Audi A7, Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide. The production version of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé will be available at dealerships from spring 2012. Before that, however, it will celebrate its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.

BMW 6 Series with extended wheelbase

The Bavarian one Coupé-Coup reveals little new. Formally, the production version remains very close to the study. With a wheelbase that is 113 millimeters longer than the 6 Series Coupé to 2,968 millimeters, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé has a total length of just over five meters and is exactly between the 5 Series and the 7 Series. The length plus gives the passengers plenty of legroom behind the newly acquired rear doors.

The through-loading option and the foldable rear seat back provide additional functionality. The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé, dubbed the 4 + 1-seater, should be able to hold between 460 and 1,265 liters of luggage. The total height is 1,392 millimeters, the width 1,894 meters.

BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé also as an all-wheel drive version

BMW also offers a well-known menu under the bonnet of the 6 Series Gran Coupé. The basic gasoline engine in the 640i is the well-known three-liter turbo with 320 hp and 450 Nm. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 in the 650i with 450 hp and 650 Nm torque can be ordered as an option. This is also available as an all-wheel drive version. The only diesel is the 313 hp and 630 Nm three-liter twin-turbo in-line six-cylinder. All units are coupled with an eight-speed automatic sports transmission with paddles on the steering wheel and are good for a governed top speed of 250 km /h. Differences are evident in the sprinting ability: the diesel in the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé takes 7.8 seconds, the gasoline ones 7.4 and 5.7 seconds respectively. When it comes to consumption, the diesel with 5.5 liters is clearly ahead of the 640i with 7.7 and the 650i with 8.6 liters. Brake energy recovery and a start-stop system are standard equipment.

BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé with upscale equipment

Because the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé is supposed to compete in the luxury class, it will also be there adequate standard equipment. These include xenon lights for dipped and main beam with LED daytime running light rings, adaptive cruise control, the driving experience switch with four drive programs that can be called up, oneLeather upholstery with heated and electrically adjustable seats as well as an audio system and alloy wheels.

The option list naturally includes all the features that are also offered for the BMW 6 Series. The offer ranges from numerous assistance systems to mobile internet access and roll stabilization.

M package and exclusive options

A special M-Sport package and numerous exclusive options from BMW Individual will also be available for market launch. The price list for the 6 Series Gran Coupé starts at at least 79,500 euros. The four-door model is almost 5,000 euros more expensive than the conventional coupé and is also 800 euros more than the comparable 7 Series, with which the car shares the technology.
