T he drive of the BMW 225xe relies on one Three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with 136 hp and 220 Nm in combination with an electric motor with 65 kW and 165 Nm. Also on board is a high-voltage starter generator, which is integrated via a belt drive and can start the combustion engine and support it with its maximum torque of 150 Newton meters when accelerating from a standstill. It also functions as a generator.
BMW puts the system performance at 224 hp and 385 Nm. The combustion engine drives the front axle, while the electric motor pushes the rear axle. It is shifted by a six-speed automatic. The standard consumption should be 2.0 to 2.1 liters per 100 kilometers. But the little van can also be dynamic. The 1,660 kg (DIN) heavy BMW 225xe is supposed to sprint from zero to 100 km /h in 6.7 seconds, the top speed is 202 km /h.
BMW 225xe from 37,800 euros
But anyone who buys a hybrid has completely different values in focus. Driven entirely by electricity, the BMW 225xe can reach speeds of up to 125 km /h. The electric range is specified as up to 41 km. If the high-voltage battery is then drained, then refueling is the order of the day. The charging process takes three hours and 15 minutes with a conventional household socket, with a suitable wallbox it can be back on the track after two hours and 15 minutes.
Thanks to the space-saving 7, 7 kWh lithium-ion battery and the entire electric drive under the luggage compartment floor means that the luggage compartment can be used almost without restrictions. The BMW 225xe can be conditioned using the driving experience switch - the spectrum ranges from sporty to driving fun to purely electric operation.
The BMW 225xe will be built at the Leipzig plant from the end of 2015. The price for the hybrid van starts at 37,800 euros in Germany. The price of the 225xe is on par with the equally powerful BMW 225i and even undercuts its all-wheel drive version by a good 2,000 euros.
