D he most obvious innovation on the BMW 1 Series Coupé and BMW 1 Series Convertible affects the headlights. In the future, they will have an LED light above the xenon double headlights, which will serve as daytime running lights.
Air curtains should ensure better aerodynamics
Underneath, the new one is also provided designed front apron on the BMW 1 Series Coupé and BMW 1 Series Convertible for a breath of fresh air - in the truest sense of the word. As with the recently introduced M Coupé, the so-called air curtains are used in the two facelift models. The vertical air openings in the front apron have been re-dimensioned and should now divert the air through special channels in such a way that a kind of air curtain lies in front of the wheel flanks of the front wheels. Thus, the air resistance in the fender of the BMW 1 Series Coupé and BMW 1 Series Convertible should be reduced noticeably, which should ultimately also ensure that consumption is optimized.
This is why the so-called Air Curtains at BMW will in future also be part of the standard Efficient Dynamics measures, which include a start-stop function in addition to braking energy recovery and a switching point display.
New equipment details for Coupé and Cabrio
Another visual distinguishing feature of the face-lifted models are the black trim that runs right through the large ventilation grille, as well as the subtly prettied tail lights which now also shine in LED technology. In addition, BMW offers two new metallic paint finishes for the 1 Series Coupé and 1 Series Convertible in vermilion red and Marrakech brown, new light alloy wheels in 17 and 18 inch designs, the new magma brown 'Network' fabric cover and two new leather variants. On request, a leather sports steering wheel with shift paddles also enhances the interior.
Anyone who sits in the new BMW 1 Series Coupé or BMW 1 Series Convertible for the first time will be amazed at the lack of a DSC button. Of course, the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) remains on board even after the facelift. For reasons of better international comprehensibility, however, it now has a new symbol.
As part of the facelift, BMW donated the 1 Series Coupé and the 1 Series Cabrio chrome applications, which can be found around the control panel for the air conditioning, among other things. The interior trims now also shine in a new design and, for the first time, in Alpine white. At what prices coupé and convertible from March 2011 atBMW has not yet announced that it will be available to German dealers. What is certain, however, is that the entry-level BMW 118i Convertible will roll on 16-inch light alloy wheels as standard.
