Z should not be next the “Digital Testfeld Autobahn” on the A9 in Bavaria will be equipped with special landmark signs for automated vehicles. These new traffic signs are intended to help self-driving cars to determine their own location.

Landmark signs irrelevant for motorists

“Automated and networked vehicles steer the roadway with high precision. To do this, they need to know exactly where they are at all times. The special landmark signs on the digital test field Autobahn are an important fixed point. Together with state-of-the-art sensors and a digital map accurate to the centimeter, the new signs are another building block on the way to the first fully digitized and fully networked road, ”explains Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt.

Autobahn Directorate South Bavaria built around the Holledau Autobahn triangle on the A9 and A93 - at a distance of around 2.5 kilometers.
