W agener, who was born on September 3, 1968 in Essen , first studied industrial design at the University of Essen before specializing in transportation design at the Royal College of Art in London.

Gorden Wagener replaced Peter Pfeiffer as head of design at Mercedes

He first worked at Volkswagen, Mazda and GM before joining Mercedes in 1997. Over the years he was involved in all Mercedes model series such as A-, B-, C-, CLK-, E-, S-, M- and R-Class as well as the sports cars SL, SLK and SLR McLaren. In 2006, Gorden Wagener took over the management of Mercedes’s US design studio in Los Angeles /California, where he still found some time to pursue his great hobby of windsurfing.

In 2008, Gorden Wagener prevailed against many other candidates and took over the successor to Peter Pfeiffer as head of Mercedes design Wagener's favorite car is - how could it be otherwise - the 300 SL Gullwing, because he sees it as 'the sports car icon of the last century'.
