T he first premieres and innovations of the Geneva Motor Show have already been announced. Here is a first overview.

VW presents Up and Golf Cabrio

Also as a small car, Volkswagen will present the production version of the VW Up at the Geneva Motor Show. However, the electric version of the VW Up will not hit the market before 2013. The men from Wolfsburg will also be showing the convertible version of the Golf and the new VW Beetle. The new 'Beetle' uses the technical platform of the current VW Golf and can therefore make ample use of its modular technology.

Opel is showing GTC, the Coupé for the Astra

The new Opel Astra GTC, which was already on display as a study at the Paris Motor Show, promises more driving dynamics. The three-door model comes with a wider track and a dynamically drawn body. With the GTC, the GSI label is also to be revived. The 210 hp Astra will then compete directly against the GTI. The top model will again be an Astra GTC OPC with around 240 hp. As a further highlight at the Geneva Motor Show, Opel will present the new Zafira.

Mercedes SLK and C-Class Coupé are innovations at the Geneva Motor Show

Conventionally, Mercedes is showing its first premiere at the Geneva Motor Show. The Stuttgart-based company is presenting the new generation of the Mercedes SLK at Lac Leman. The roadster loses its Formula 1 nose and is based on the styling of the Mercedes SLS AMG. The headlights are arranged differently and the front apron now houses the LED daytime running lights. The foldable hardtop has been retained, but has been expanded to include a panorama option with a glass element. For the first time, a diesel engine is also used in the Mercedes SLK.

Furthermore, Mercedes will bring the C-Class Coupé to the Geneva Motor Show. The two-door car has a more swept-back bonnet, a modified front apron and redesigned headlights. These elements will also be seen a little later in the C-Class facelift. In order to be able to stand up to the competition from Bavaria, a number of assistance systems are also found in the Mercedes C Coupé: distance control, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition.
